Engineering a Façade for a Global Icon

Set to become New Zealand’s first IKEA, the Sylvia Park store is more than a retail destination – it is a landmark project where façade design defines both identity and performance. The bold blue and yellow façade establishes a strong architectural presence while delivering a highly functional, durable, and efficient building envelope.
Our façade engineering team played a key role in translating IKEA’s global design language into a solution tailored for New Zealand’s climate and performance requirements. The façade incorporates large-format cladding panels, expansive glazed areas, and carefully integrated signage, ensuring both visual impact and long-term resilience. Special attention was given to weatherproofing, thermal performance, and durability in Auckland’s coastal environment, as well as efficient construction sequencing for this fast-track project.
Beyond performance, constructability and cost-effectiveness were central to our approach. We developed robust fixing systems and detailing strategies that allow the large-scale façade components to be installed quickly and accurately, supporting programme certainty and quality outcomes.
The result is a façade that is instantly recognisable, technically robust, and commercially efficient – a perfect alignment of architectural branding and engineering expertise.
