The Christchurch Convention Centre stands as a landmark of resilience and modern design, and its striking façade is central to that identity. At the heart of the design is its distinctive tiled façade – a mosaic of thousands of panels arranged in patterns inspired by the braided rivers of Canterbury and the weaving traditions of Ngāi Tahu. This cultural storytelling required absolute precision in façade engineering. Each tile was individually designed, detailed, and positioned to create a seamless flowing pattern, while the system beneath ensures long-term performance in terms of weatherproofing, seismic resilience, and durability.
Our engineering expertise transformed this complex architectural vision into a buildable reality. We optimised fixing systems to accommodate seismic movement, refined tolerances to ensure consistent alignment across the vast façade, and delivered solutions that balanced visual quality with practical constructability.
